Torpedbåts-gnistarna
(The torpedoboat sparks)
The club was founded in 2003 to be a part of the Swedish voluntary organisation “MTB-veteraner” (Motor Torpedo Boat-veterans).
The purpose of the club is to preserve the
radio history of the Swedish torpedoboat fleet. We are situated at the former torpedoboat base in the southern archipelago of Stockholm.
The goal is to have working historical radio equipment’s on board all torpedoboats in the MTB-veterans organisation, and also run a small radioshack and a workshop as a “radiomuseum” were we can show all transmitters, receivers and related instrument from the Swedish torpedoboat era. The equipment in the museum are dated from 1939 to approximately 1975.
To be able to use the radios on the amateurradio frequencies we obtained an amateur callsign for the club (SKØMTB) and special event callsigns (explained in the following text) for each torpedoboat in MTB-veterans organisation:
• The radiomuseum SKØMTB
(Motor Torpedo Boat)
• Motor torpedo boat T38: 8S8MMK
(Maritime Museum Karlskrona, based
at the maritime museum Karlskrona)
• Motor torpedo boat T56: 8S8CRM
(CRM is the brand of the engines onboard)
